Propane prices by ZIP code: how it works
There is no public per-ZIP propane price feed in the US, so we are honest about the resolution chain. Your 5-digit ZIP code maps to a regional centroid (the first three digits), which tells us your state and approximate location. The price we show is your state's residential average from the EIA survey, the best public benchmark available. The dealer list is real and local: we rank every geocoded, state-licensed dealer in your state by straight-line distance from your ZIP area and show the closest ones with their towns and direct phone numbers. How to find the lowest propane price near you
The lowest propane price in your area is almost never advertised. Dealers quote by phone, and per-gallon quotes for the same delivery can vary 20 to 50 percent between suppliers serving the same town. So the single most effective step is also the simplest: call two or three of the dealers listed above and ask each for their current per-gallon price, delivery fee, tank rental cost, and minimum delivery volume. The cheapest headline rate is not always the cheapest total, a low per-gallon price with a $75 delivery fee and a rental charge can cost more than a mid-range quote with neither.
Two trade-offs decide most of the spread. First, will-call vs auto-delivery: will-call (you order when you choose) lets you time purchases for cheaper months, while auto-delivery often earns a 5 to 10 percent discount but takes the timing out of your hands. Second, tank ownership: owning your tank lets you take the cheapest quote in town every single year, while renting locks you to one supplier's price.

The headline US average ($2.67/gal) hides a wide spread. Your real per-gallon price is set locally, and two households in neighboring counties can pay very different rates. These are the factors that move your number:
Every mile of delivery adds cost. Homes at the end of a long rural route pay more than a town sitting next to a distributor's storage.
An area with three or four competing dealers has lower prices than a single-supplier town. Competition is the strongest lever on your rate.
Suppliers price tighter where they already run a dense route. A new customer off the beaten path can carry a surcharge.
Renting your tank locks you to one supplier's price. Owning it lets you take quotes from every dealer on the list and switch freely.
