Read the date before you trust any "current" residential price. EIA's weekly residential propane survey (SHOPP) runs October through March only. The figures above are the final release of the 2025/26 heating season, week ending 30 March 2026. EIA pauses weekly publication April through September; the next release is expected 7 October 2026. Between now and then, the only current propane prices anywhere are the daily wholesale benchmark above and the handful of state summer surveys below. Most sites keep serving the March number without saying so.

Summer 2026 State Propane Surveys: Who Is Actually Publishing

We track every US state energy office that publishes residential propane prices through the EIA off-season. Live rows are re-scraped daily from each state's own site (last scrape 21 July 2026). Paused rows are honest negatives: we checked, and no summer figure is published.

Live rows: scraped daily from each state energy office's published survey; the "as of" date is the survey date the state itself publishes. Maine publishes cash prices, which run slightly below EIA's credit-price convention. Vermont's figure is a monthly statewide average. Paused rows checked against each state's site in July 2026; sources linked per row. No figure on this page is estimated or interpolated except where explicitly labelled as an estimate.

From Wholesale Benchmark to Your Delivered Price

Mont Belvieu, TX is the hub where US propane is priced at wholesale. Your delivered residential price adds pipeline and truck transport, local storage, and the retailer's margin on top of that spot price, which is why a homeowner never pays anything close to the wholesale number some sites present as "today's propane price".

How big is that gap? Over the 26 weeks of the 2025/26 heating season where both series published (October 2025 through March 2026), EIA's national residential price averaged $1.91/gal above the weekly mean of the Mont Belvieu daily spot, ranging from $1.77 to $2.06. That figure is arithmetic over published EIA data, not an industry rule of thumb.

The arithmetic, shown
Spot today (13 Jul): $0.721/gal
+ observed 25/26 spread: $1.91/gal avg
= $2.49 to $2.78/gal (est.)

Estimate only: it applies the heating-season relationship to a summer spot price. Summer delivered prices typically run below this band because demand is at its annual low. The live state surveys above are actual published prices; prefer them where your state has one.

Propane Prices Today: FAQ

How much is propane per gallon today?
The Mont Belvieu wholesale benchmark, the one propane price that updates daily year-round, is $0.721/gal as of 13 July 2026 (EIA daily spot). That is the wholesale price distributors pay, not what homeowners pay at the tank. The last published national residential figure is $2.67/gal from the EIA weekly survey, week ending 30 March 2026; EIA pauses that survey April through September. The freshest live residential readings come from state summer surveys: New Hampshire $3.92/gal (July 1, 2026), Massachusetts $3.60/gal (13 July 2026), Maine $3.17/gal (July 13, 2026), Vermont $2.99/gal (June 2026).
Why is there no current national residential propane price?
EIA's State Heating Oil and Propane Program (SHOPP), the source of the weekly residential propane price every site quotes, only runs October through March. The final release of the 2025/26 heating season was the week ending 30 March 2026, and the next weekly release is expected 7 October 2026. Any site showing a "current" national residential price between April and September is either quoting that March figure or quoting the wholesale spot, which is a different number. We show both, dated, and label which is which.
Can I estimate today's residential price from the wholesale benchmark?
Roughly, if you treat it as an estimate rather than a survey figure. Across the 26 overlapping weeks of the 2025/26 heating season, EIA's national residential price averaged $1.91/gal above the weekly mean of the Mont Belvieu daily spot, ranging from $1.77 to $2.06. Adding that observed spread to today's spot of $0.72/gal implies a rough national residential band of $2.49 to $2.78/gal (estimate, computed from published EIA data, not a survey). Summer residential prices also typically sit below the heating-season relationship because demand is at its annual low.
Which states publish residential propane prices in summer?
Five state energy offices keep surveying through the EIA pause, all in the Northeast: New Hampshire (monthly Apr-Sep, weekly Oct-Mar); Massachusetts (monthly Apr-Sep, weekly Oct-Mar); Maine (bi-weekly May-Aug, weekly Sep-Apr); Vermont (monthly Apr-Sep (posted first Monday), weekly Oct-Mar); New York's NYSERDA survey runs bi-weekly April-August. We checked Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri in July 2026: all five are winter-only survey states with no published summer 2026 residential figure. The full table on this page lists each state's latest figure or its honest paused status, with sources.
How often is this page updated?
The Mont Belvieu spot price refreshes from EIA every day at 02:00 UTC, and the state summer surveys are re-scraped from each state energy office on the same schedule. The page rebuilds automatically whenever the data changes, so the dates you see next to each figure are the actual dates of the underlying data, not a generic "updated today" stamp.
